(Toronto, Canada). Dezesseis intépretes participaram do encontro interpretando peças do repertório.

President Peiyou Chang, Dear Qin's Friends.

Today is a special occasion. Joining New York Qin Society was an important milestone in my artistic life towards qin culture.

First, for being part of a community devoted to the art of qin, which has maintained the transmission of the ancient culture for two decades.

Second, as a co-founder of the Guqin Brasil Association (2018), I committed myself, before Master Yuan Jung-Ping, to root the qin culture on Brazilian soil. We Brazilians can benefit from NYQS's pioneering and international experience to fulfill this purpose

Third, I believe that we must always honour the efforts of our teachers. In this case, I refer to my qin teacher and now supervisor, Peiyou Chang, who embraced my own personality, including its limitations, and taught me to follow this path, even though I have not been such an exemplary student. She believed in me and accepted that I'm left-handed, allowing me to build my way naturally. Joining the NYQS means putting my best efforts to keep it constantly bright in our hearts.

Finally, cause my dad loved New York, the city we visited many times, more than a dozen on business trips and for pleasure, I entered this society with a refreshed happiness. My father dreamed that someday I would study and live in New York. He used to imagine me as a Julliard School student because of the Jazz music he loved. He opened a bank account at Citibank and deposited some money every month, thinking about this bright future for me. I lost count of how many times we went to Avery Fisher Hall or Carnegie Hall and the Jazz clubs at the Village.

At that time, I was studying musical composition at the University of São Paulo, and everything pronounced that I would continue in the world of classical music. It was like this for many years, and I even got my Ph.D. in classical composition, starting a flourishing and becoming a university teaching composer. In 2012, I got to know Peiyou and redirected my life to Qin. My father passed away in 2015. I'm sure he would be delighted to see that I arrived at the same place of his dreams, taking a different path.

As a member of the NYQS, I am committed to always being available to the association in whatever needs to be.

Sincerely yours,

André Ribeiro
